HP Designjet 5500 Series Printers - Eaglejet TWI: System Errors 0Axxxx and APS Issues

An error has occurred in the Air Pressurization System (APS). Ink cartridges, pinched or damaged tubes, or a faulty APS most commonly cause these errors. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the error and to replace the necessary parts.

C6090-60232 (UV) 42-inch


UV Ink Cartridges (Optional)

Ink cartridges must be sent directly to customer site by Centiv (not an HP part)

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
  2. After 10-15 seconds, turn the main power switch on.
  3. If no error appears, attempt to verify printer functionality.
  4. If the error re-appears, continue with the remaining steps.
  5. Verify the current firmware is A.02.07 or higher, upgrade if needed.
  6. Remove and re-install all ink cartridges and attempt to verify functionality.
  7. Replace the affected ink cartridge(s) and attempt to verify functionality.
  8. Ensure the tubes of the APS tube system are not pinched or damaged, correct as needed (refer to pages 8-25 of the service manual).
  9. Check the APS cable connections and ensure cables are not pinched or damaged (refer to pages 8-67 of the Service Manual). Fix as needed and attempt to verify functionality.
  1. If the problem persists, replace the APS system (refer to pages 8-67 of the Service Manual).
  2. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Service Station calibration (instructions below).
  3. Following the calibration, turn the printer off, then on, and attempt to verify functionality.
  4. If the problem persists following replacement of the APS system, replace the Ink Tubes system (refer to pages 8-25 of the Service Manual).
  5. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Service Station calibration (instructions below).
  6. Following the calibration, turn the printer, off then on, and verify functionality.

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. When the "READY" message is displayed on the front-panel, scroll to the Printer Setup Options icon and press ENTER.
  3. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Utilities and press ENTER.
  4. Once inside the Utilities menu, press the Up Arrow key and the ENTER key simultaneously.
  5. Scroll to the necessary menu (Service Tests, Service Utilities, or Service Calibrations) and press ENTER.
  6. Once inside the appropriate menu, scroll to the needed test and press ENTER to start the test.
