HP Designjet 5500 Series Printers - Eaglejet TWI: System Error 0Fxxxx

0Fxxxx system errors can be caused by corrupt print jobs, third party RIPs, out-dated firmware, or a Left Scan Axis Positioning error. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the error and to replace the necessary parts.

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If parts are replaced or fixed in any of the steps listed below, attempt to verify printer functionality by turning the printer on and printing internal test prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
  2. Disconnect the data cable from the printer (network or parallel).
  3. Turn the main power switch on.
  4. Following initialization, attempt to print internal test prints (Printer Setup Options, Utilities, Test Print).
  5. If no error appears, upgrade firmware, troubleshoot OS, customer file, data connection, and software program (internal printer functionality has been proven).
  6. If the error appears, continue with the remaining steps.
  7. Upgrade the firmware to the most current version and attempt to verify functionality.
  8. If the problem persists following the upgrade, replace the lens cover (Printer Setup Options, Utilities, Replace Lens Cover).
  9. Attempt to verify functionality. If problems persist, continue with the remaining steps.
  10. Clean the mark encoder located on the drive roller (use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water). If the mark encoder (left side of drive roller) is not visible, enter the Utilities menu, scroll to Clean Platen and choose Manual. Press the Up Arrow key to move the drive roller until the mark encoder is visible.
  11. Attempt to verify functionality.
  12. If the error continues, check the tensioner for damage and replace if necessary (refer to pages 8-42 of the service manual).
  1. If the problem persists, replace the line sensor (located on the carriage assembly).
  2. Following replacement, turn the printer on and allow printer to complete initialization.
  3. Enter the Service Calibration menu as instructed below.
  4. Perform the Scan-Axis, Service Station, and Carriage Height calibrations.
  5. Following the calibrations, turn the printer off, then on, and verify printer functionality.
  6. If the problem persists, replace the power supply unit (refer to pages 8-88 of the service manual).
  7. Turn the printer on and verify functionality.

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. When the "READY" message is displayed on the front-panel, scroll to the Printer Setup Options icon and press ENTER.
  3. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Utilities and press ENTER.
  4. Once inside the Utilities menu, press the Up Arrow key and the ENTER key simultaneously.
  5. Scroll to the necessary menu (Service Tests, Service Utilities, or Service Calibrations) and press ENTER.
  6. Once inside the appropriate menu, scroll to the needed test and press ENTER to start the test.
