HP Designjet 5500 Series Printers - Eaglejet TWI: System Error 0C0030

The printer has detected a failure with the drop detect sensor. Common causes include poorly connected cables, obstacles blocking the sensor, and a faulty drop detect assembly. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the error and to replace the necessary parts.

The steps below are designed to achieve remote resolution of the issue. If the troubleshooting steps below appear to resolve the issue, attempt to verify functionality by printing several internal prints. If the issue persists following the steps below, generate a CSO for service.

  1. Turn the printer off, using the main power switch located on the back of the printer.
  2. After 10-15 seconds, turn the main power switch on.
  3. If no error appears, attempt to verify printer functionality.
  4. If the error re-appears, continue with the remaining steps.
  5. Clean the drop detect sensor:
    1. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to the Printhead menu (the Printhead icon is on the lower right of the front panel display) and press Enter.
    2. Scroll to Recover Printheads and press Enter.
    3. Unplug the power cable from the printer.
    4. Open the top-cover and clean the Drop Detector using a lint-free cloth dampened with water (Drop Detector is located on the side of the Service Station).
    5. Close the top-cover and plug in the power cable.
    6. Attempt to verify functionality.
    7. If the problem persists, generate a CSO for service (send ALL required parts as listed below).

If any of the troubleshooting steps (including parts replacement) listed below solve the problem, attempt to verify printer functionality by printing several internal prints. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the printer off and check the drop detect to service station cable for damage or a poor connection (refer to pages 8-72 of the service manual). If cable is re-connected, attempt to verify functionality.
  1. If damage is found with the cable or the problem persists, replace the detector assembly (refer to pages 8-72 of the service manual).
  2. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform a Service Station calibration (instructions found in the Accessing service menus section below).
  3. Following the calibration, attempt to verify functionality.
  4. If problems persist, replace the main PCA and the HDD controller (which connects to the new main PCA). Refer to pages 8-85 of the service manual.
  5. Following replacement, turn the printer on and perform the Backup EEROM service utility (instructions below).
  6. Turn the printer off, then on, and verify functionality.

Accessing service menusback to table of contents

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. When the Ready message is displayed on the printer's front panel, scroll to the Printer setup menu icon (icon in upper right corner of display), and press ENTER.
  3. Using the Arrow keys, scroll to Utilities and press ENTER.
  4. Press the Up arrow key and the ENTER key simultaneously (to enter the service menus).
  5. Scroll to the necessary menu (Service Tests, Service Calibrations, or Service Utilities) and press ENTER.
  6. Scroll to the necessary Test, Calibration, or Utility and press ENTER to start.

Backup EEROM service utilityback to table of contents

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Access the Service Utilities menu as described above in the Accessing service menus section.
  3. In the Service Utilities menu, scroll to 1.6 Backup EEROM and press ENTER.
  4. Select the part replaced (Main PCA) and press ENTER.
  5. A message confirming the selection will appear, press ENTER to confirm (if the wrong part is selected, press BACK to cancel).
  6. The printer will perform the backup and display the message, Backup performed correctly.
  7. Press the BACK key to return to the previous menu.
  8. Press the BACK key again to return to the Service Utilities menu.
  9. Turn the printer off then on and verify functionality.
