HP Designjet cc800ps, 815mfp and 4200 Scanner - TWI: System Error 08-149

In this document:

This error indicates that a problem with the Smart Card has been detected and is displayed as system error 08-149 on the touch-screen monitor, or by the following scanner LED light sequence on the scanners front panel:

Possible causes are a faulty Smart Card or the card is incorrectly inserted into the Smart Card Reader. It is also possible that the Smart Card Reader is poorly connected or is faulty. Follow the steps listed below to determine the actual cause of the failure and to replace the appropriate parts.

The steps below are designed to achieve remote resolution of the issue. If the troubleshooting steps below appear to resolve the issue, attempt to verify scanner functionality. If the issue persists following the steps below, generate a CSO for service.

  1. Remove and reinstall the Smart Card into the Smart Card Reader.
  2. Turn the scanner and touch-screen monitor off.
  3. Allow 30 seconds and turn the scanner and touch-screen monitor back on.
  4. Following scanner startup, attempt to verify functionality.
  1. If the problem persists, send a new Smart card to the customer (cc800ps - Q1261-60032, 815 MFP/4200 - Q1278-60016).
  2. If the problem continues following Smart card replacement, generate a CSO for service (send all required parts as listed below).

If any of the troubleshooting steps listed below solve the problem, attempt to verify functionality. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

  1. Turn the scanner and touch-screen monitor off.
  2. Remove the scanner Top cover (refer to pg. 4-4 of the Service Manual).
  3. Verify the Smart card reader is correctly connected to the Main Electronics Board.
  4. If the Smart card reader connection to the Main Electronics board appears faulty, re-connect the cable, and turn the scanner and touch-screen monitor on and attempt to verify functionality.
  5. If the card reader connection appears fine, and/or the problem persists, replace the Smart Card Reader (refer to pg. 4-29 of the Service Manual).
  6. Following replacement, verify functionality.
