Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

If any of the troubleshooting steps listed below solve the problem, attempt to verify printer functionality as instructed below. If functionality is verified, no additional parts should be replaced.

    1. If roll media is being used, verify the roll length does not exceed 150 feet. Roll media of a greater length may cause premature failure of the Paper-Axis Motor due to too much tension along the paper path.
    2. Determine if the noise is normal. Some noise is normal, specifically; it is normal to hear the media moving along the paper path. If a high-pitched "whine" or "whistle" is heard it may be caused by use of a non-standard size of sheet or roll media.
    3. If a non-standard size sheet or roll of media is being used, check if when the media is advancing it is temporarily covering a vacuum hole causing the high-pitched whine or "whistle" to occur. If so try using a Bond media that is a standard size (i.e. 8 ½ x 11).
    1. If the issue persists, replace the Drive Roller and the Transmission Gear Kit (refer to pg. 8-84, 8-93 of the 500/800 Series Service Manual).
    2. Following replacement, turn the printer On and attempt to verify functionality.

Verifying functionalityback to table of contents

  1. Turn the printer On.
  2. From the main front-panel menu, select the Paper menu and press ENTER.
  3. Select Load Sheet or Load Roll and press ENTER.
  4. Load media into the printer.
  5. Follow the instructions on the Front panel.
