HP Designjet ColorPro Printers - System Error 441, Pre-mature Cartridge Low or Out

The printer's front panel shows a MECH_PUMP_JAM error and/or the system error 441. The Ready and Attention lights (or LEDs) on the printer will also flash alternately. Other symptoms include:

• Ink cartridges being pushed up or popped out of the printer
• Receiving false Low or Out of ink messages
• Any one of the four white pads, located in the printer underneath the ink cartridges, are retracted (no elevation in the pads, flush with the surface), binding (sticking), or not uniform in height. See Service Note C2684A-03A.

Troubleshooting steps

1. Remove the four ink cartridges.
2. Press and release each of the white pump pads. Observe whether all four pads "spring" back to their initial position. They should not bind in any way.
3. Ensure that the height of the pump pads is uniform. Reinsert the ink cartridges and turn off the printer. Turn on the printer and try printing a diagnostic test page.
4. If the test page is able to print, the printer has recovered. If the error messages continue, the printer will not recover and must be replaced.
