    2. Open the Printhead Access cover and unlock the printhead latch.

    7. Replace the defective printhead with a new printhead.
    8. Fasten the printhead latch and close the Printhead Access cover and repeat Step 6 in the Troubleshooting section above to verify the new printhead is working.
    9. If printhead errors continue, replace all four printheads simultaneously.

    5. Repeat Step 6 in the Troubleshooting section for the Magenta and Yellow printheads to verify that all the printheads are working.
    6. The printer will display a READY message and the printhead detecting sequence will end once all of the printheads have been found to be in good working order.

Specific printhead errorsback to table of contents

  1. If a specific printhead error message is displayed after replacing a cartridge, there is a possibility that the cartridge can be causing the printhead error message.
  2. Remove the ink cartridge matching the color of the printhead generating the error.
  3. Turn the printer off and then on.
  4. Examine the message on the LCD panel.
    1. If the message {COLOR} PRNT-HD DEFECTIVE, REPLACE appears while initializing, the printhead is most likely defective; replace the printhead.
    2. If the message {COLOR} CART MISSING, INSERT appears in the LCD panel, insert the missing ink cartridge.
  5. If the printhead error returns after the ink cartridge is installed, the error is most likely due to a faulty ink cartridge; replace the ink cartridge.
  6. If the printhead error does not reappear shortly after inserting the ink cartridge, try printing for a while and see if the error returns.
  7. If the printhead error returns, try replacing the ink cartridge first and then the printhead.
