HP Designjet 400 Series Printers - EEROM Model ID Configuration Procedure

In this document:

The EEROM Model ID configuration is incorrect. This can happen if a pre-configured board is being reused, the current board is incorrectly configured, or the model ID is not configured. An incorrect model ID can also cause steady Align Media + Cartridges + Data LEDs (Steady EKL system error). Use the steps contained in this document to correctly configure the printer's model ID.

Configuration proceduresback to table of contents

  1. Always print a Service Configuration, whenever possible, to view results.
  2. Turn the printer off.
  3. Remove the firmware/memory SIMM cover from the back of the printer.
  4. Remove firmware ROM and any memory SIMM installed in the printer.
  5. Remove the right end cover.
  6. Disconnect the media motor encoder cable from main PCA (connector ENC X).
  7. Turn the printer on while holding down the REPRINT key.

  17. Turn the printer on.
  18. After initializing, the Ready + Data + Media LEDs (steady DLM) will be On (error in X-axis calibration).
  19. Perform an Accuracy calibration (listed below).
  20. Press the CANCEL key and print the Service Configuration sheet to check if the printer has been correctly configured as a HP Designjet 430, 450C, 455CA, or 488CA.

Accuracy Calibrationback to table of contents

  1. Place a sheet of polyester film over the top of the printer for approximately 10 minutes to let it stabilize to the environmental conditions. Use a sheet approximately 24 x 36 inches, 61 x 91 cm (D-size). If sheet media is not available, roll media can be used if cut into a 24 X 36 inch sheet. When using polyester film, load it with the matte (dull) side down.
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press and hold in the MEDIA SOURCE key and turn the printer on (entering Service mode 2).
  3. Set the Media Type on the front panel to Coated Paper.
  4. Load the film with the matte (dull) side down, in portrait orientation.
  5. When the Ready LED lights up press the REPRINT key.
  1. The printer will eject the sheet, and the Load Media LED will light up.
  2. Unload the sheet from the printer.
  3. Wait until the ink on the sheet is dry.
  4. Cut the sheet along the dotted line and reload facedown into the printer in the direction indicated by the arrows on the calibration plot.
  1. Unload the sheet from the printer.
  2. The Accuracy calibration is now complete.
