HP Designjet 650C Series Printers - Switch Power Off Check Paper Path

In this document:

End of Support Drawer Statementback to table of contents

Hewlett-Packard guarantees support for five years after the end of production of its' large format printers. Since the Designjet 650C has been out of production for a number of years, the parts and sub-assemblies may no longer be available to complete the repair. If the customer has a service agreement or contract follow normal contract call logging processes (regardless of parts availability).

If the printer is not covered by a service agreement or contract, notify the customer about parts availability issues that will limit the ability to perform printer repairs. Inform the customer about the benefits of HP's Trade Up program, and give them the Trade Up Web site http://www.hp.tradeups.com/login/login.asp. If the customer needs help in locating a local reseller, give them the reseller contact Web site at http://www.hp.com/usa/reseller/index.html. If the customer still requests service and parts are available, follow normal trade call logging processes to avoid escalation. If parts are unavailable for the needed service, do not log a CSO.

Introductionback to table of contents

A problem has occurred in the X-axis movement of the printer. The most probable causes include media jams, or a faulty X-motor. This document can aid in determining whether the error message is caused by printer malfunction or if caused by extraneous factors such as paper jamming. Follow the steps listed in this document to accurately determine the cause of the failure and to replace the appropriate parts.

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Remove media if loaded.
  3. Lift the media alignment lever up (Pinchwheel assemblies away from drive roller). Insert a Manila folder into media path.
  4. Move folder in and out from the far-left side to the right side of paper path, checking for obstructions or uneven resistance.
  5. Remove or address obstruction in media path before proceeding.
  6. Turn the printer on.
  7. At the Out of media prompt, load a sheet of media.
  8. Run an internal print to check if error message returns.
  9. If no error is reported, proceed to step 15.
  10. If error message re-appears with sheet loaded, turn the printer off.
  11. Remove media.
  12. Check if overdrive can turn freely towards you. If not, check/replace the Overdrive clutch gear and Overdrive assembly.
  1. Ohm the X-motor, and replace if needed. If replaced perform an Accuracy calibration as listed below.
  2. Replace Interconnect PCA if new X-motor assembly does not resolve problem. Perform an Accuracy calibration as listed below.
  3. Run several internal prints to verify operation.
  4. Remove spindle form roll feed brackets.
  5. Check brake gear on Right roll feed assembly. Should be difficult to rotate. If will not rotate or turns freely, replace.
  6. Check media roll itself for adhesion or foreign substance that would prevent media from unraveling freely from roll.
  7. Close roll cover, check if will close completely. If not, check if diameter of media roll is excessive, thus preventing roll cover from closing completely or causing drag on roll as media unraveling.
  8. Run several internal prints using roll media to verify operation.
