HP Designjet 750C Plus Series Printers - Edge not Found

This procedure is applicable when the printer could not find the edge of the media during the loading process. The edge of the media is detected using the optical sensor on the Carriage. Common causes of this issue are the Carriage and Trailing cable, the encoder strip, or the Carriage belt.

Clean the Drive Rollerback to table of contents

  1. Switch the printer on.
  2. Press the ENTER button.
  3. Use the ARROW buttons to scroll to the Utilities menu display.
  4. Press the ENTER button.
  5. Simultaneously press the ENTER and the UP ARROW buttons to access the Service Tests submenu.
  6. Use the ARROW buttons to scroll to 22 X Motion Control and press ENTER to start the test.
  7. The "Remove Media / Press Enter" message is displayed. Remove the media (if loaded) and press ENTER to start the test.
  8. The "Faster / Slower" message is displayed. Use the UP ARROW to increase speed and the DOWN ARROW to decrease speed. Use the ARROW buttons until reaching a convenient speed for cleaning.
  9. Apply any water-based cleaning solution to a lint free rag and place it against the drive roller surface while it is rotating. Thoroughly clean the drive roller surface. Try not to contaminate the belt or slider rods.
  10. To stop the roller when you have finished cleaning press ENTER.
  11. Press ENTER to return to Service Tests menu.
  12. Use the PREVIOUS button to scroll to the Status Ready for Media display.
  13. Wait for the drive roller to dry then load media. If error still occurs continue with the remaining steps.

Calibrate the Line Sensorback to table of contents

  1. Enter the Service Test menu system.
  2. Scroll to 2C Line Sensor Cal and press ENTER.
  3. The display shows the message Calibrating Green LED Light indicating the calibration is in progress.
  4. When the calibration is completed, the display shows the message Green LED Light # _ _ / Press Enter. The number given will correspond to the intensity of the LED light which will vary for different types of media. The normal value is approximately 35.
  5. Try loading media. If error reoccurs, replace the Carriage and Trailing cable. After replacing these parts perform the Accuracy, Drop Detect and Line Sensor Calibrations.

  1. In the Service Test submenu, scroll to 1C Drop Detect Cal and press ENTER.
  2. The display shows the message Calibrating indicating the calibration is in progress. Press ENTER when the calibration is complete.
  3. Press the PREVIOUS button back to READY and then turn the printer off then on to save the calibration.

Accuracy calibrationback to table of contents

  1. Place a sheet of polyester film over the top of the printer for approximately 10 minutes to let it stabilize to the environmental conditions. Use a sheet of approximately D-size (24 x 36 in/ 61 x 91 cms). Roll media may also be used. When using polyester film, load it with the matte (dull) side down.
  1. Remove any media already loaded in the printer before performing the calibration.
  2. In the Service Tests submenu, scroll to 3C Accuracy Cal and press ENTER.
  3. The "Status / Calibrating" message is displayed while the printer is calibrating.
  4. When the printer has finished calibrating, the "Load media for calibration" message is displayed.
  5. Load the media. If using D-size media, load the short edge as the leading edge in D-size printers and the long edge as the leading edge in E-size printers.
  6. When the media is loaded, the printer will automatically begin to plot the pattern.
  7. A "Status / Printing" message is displayed while plotting.
  8. Remove the media when the printer has finished plotting.
  9. The "Create pattern / Measure pattern" message is displayed.
  10. Press the DOWN ARROW button to select Measure Pattern.
  11. Rotate the plot so that the edge with the arrows points toward the printer, and then reload the plot with the arrow edge print side down.
  12. The printer will load the plot and then measure the alignment marks using the line sensor on the Carriage.
  13. If the calibration passes, the "Success Calibration / Press Enter" message is displayed.
  14. Press the PREVIOUS button back to Ready and turn the printer Off then On to save the calibration.

Turn the printer Off then On, and print several internal plots "E" or "D" size.
