HP Designjet 750C Plus Series Printers - Pen Rejection, Replace, Reseat Messages

The printer's Carriage does not accept one or more of the print cartridges. Typical causes are dirty contacts on cartridges or Carriage, defective cartridge(s), or a defective Carriage. Follow the steps listed in this document to accurately determine the cause of the failure and to replace the appropriate parts.

Troubleshooting stepsback to table of contents

  1. Troubleshoot the Ink cartridges one at a time (with the other three removed). Check that each cartridge is accepted (steady filled-in box).
  2. Clean the contacts on the Carriage and cartridges, and reinstall per instructions in Step 1.
  1. Replace ink cartridges as needed.
  2. If replacing the cartridges does not resolve the issue, continue with Step 5.
  3. Tighten the X-axis gear if printer is failing Printhead alignment.
  4. Replace the Carriage and Trailing cable.
  5. Perform the calibrations listed below:

Drop Detect Calibrationback to table of contents

  1. Switch the printer on.
  2. Press the ENTER button.
  3. Use the ARROW button to scroll to the Utilities menu display.
  4. Press the ENTER button.
  5. Simultaneously press the ENTER and the UP ARROW buttons to access the Service Tests submenu.
  6. Use the ARROW button to scroll to 1C Drop Detect Cal and press ENTER.
  7. The display shows the message Calibrating indicating that the calibration is in progress. Press ENTER when the calibration is complete.
  8. Stay in Service mode for the next calibration.

Line Sensor Calibrationback to table of contents

  1. In the Service Test submenu, scroll to 2C Line sensor cal and press ENTER.
  2. The display will show Calibrating Green LED Light, indicating that the calibration is in progress.
  3. When the calibration is complete, the display will show Green LED Light # _ _ / press Enter. The number shown corresponds to the intensity of the LED light, which will vary for different types of media. The normal range of the number should be between 0 and 56.
  4. Press ENTER when the calibration is complete and stay in Service mode.

Accuracy Calibrationback to table of contents

  1. Use a sheet approximately 24 x 36 inches, or roll media. To get the best results for an accuracy calibration, a polyester/matte film should be used.
  1. Remove any media already loaded in the printer before performing the calibration.
  2. In the Service Tests submenu, scroll to 3C Accuracy Cal and press ENTER.
  3. Select Create when the Create pattern / Measure pattern message is displayed.
  4. The Status / Calibrating message is displayed while the printer is calibrating.
  5. When the printer has finished calibrating, the Load media for calibration message is displayed.
  6. Load the media. If using D-size media, load the short edge as the leading edge in D-size printers and the long edge as the leading edge in E-size printers.
  7. When the media is loaded, the printer will automatically begin to plot the pattern.
  8. A Status / Printing message is displayed while printing.
  9. Remove the media when prompted.
  10. The Create pattern / Measure pattern message is displayed.
  11. Press the DOWN ARROW button to select Measure Pattern.
  12. Load the plot so that the edge with the arrows points toward the printer, and reload the plot with the print side down.
  13. Select Sheet Load by pressing the UP ARROW.
  14. The printer will load the plot and Status / Measuring will be displayed while the line sensor on the carriage measures the alignment marks.
  15. If the calibration passes, the Calibration Done / Continue message is displayed.
  16. Press the DOWN ARROW to continue.
  17. The Status / Ready for Media message will be displayed.
  18. If the calibration is unsuccessful, tighten the X-axis gear.
  19. Power cycle the printer to save calibration to the EEROM.

Verify functionalityback to table of contents

Power cycle the printer and print several internal plots "E" or "D" size.
